What day of quarantine are we even on? Believe it or not, I’ve been at home way before this pandemic so at this point cabin fever is a real thing. If you couldn’t tell from my last blog post, I’ve been doing everything to stay creative and it’s actually been a lot of fun.

In the midst of all my birthday festivities I decided to leave my house for the first time to do something other than essential shopping since this whole thing started. I know I know, some of you are reading this wondering why I would leave my house in the middle of a pandemic. I promise I still social distanced the whole time! I went to Getaway House. *Promo code below* For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s a secluded cabin on the outskirts of the most popular cities. They have locations in NY, LA, Boston, Dallas, Austin and Atlanta. They shut down a few locations but the Dallas location was still open and at a cheaper rate! It seemed like the perfect time to visit.  They sent a number of emails about the locations they shut down and how they were taking extra cleanliness measures at the locations that were still open. And seriously you really don’t see anyone when you’re there aside from the person you go with. For anyone who has ever looked at booking a stay here, you know it can be a bit pricey especially on the weekends, so I figured I’d take advantage of the low prices. I had also been wanting to donate, which I did on my own. But for anyone booking around the time that I did they were also donating to Feeding America. Traveling for a cause? Count me in.

What I brought with me:

• A tablecloth for the picnic table
• Clorox wipes
• Lysol
• Champagne
• Disposable champagne flutes
• Personal orange juices
• Games
• Food
• A blanket
• Towels
• Water (bring lots of it)
• Marshmallows
• Gram crackers
• Chocolate
• Skewers
• Utensils

How I prepared:

As with every other activity I did for my birthday, I bought what I needed while I was at the grocery store shopping for my essentials. I woke up super early that morning and packed everything I thought that I would need. I brought bottles of water (which I later found out wasn’t enough), Clorox wipes, a can of Lysol, my own forks, my own bowl, my own champagne flutes, soap, towels and even my own comforter. Anything I could do to avoid needing anything additional when I got there I did. They even suggested shopping beforehand to avoid having to shop during your stay so I made sure to cook. I didn’t realize they didn’t have a microwave so my food options probably weren’t ideal but we made do. A rookie mistake on my part so be sure to read whats included. They did have a stove but during this time I preferred not to cook there.

What I did there:

When we first got there I was actually surprised there was anything like this in Dallas. Seriously, the greenery around here is kind of limited to say the least. Driving up the cabin was breathtaking. When we got to the cabin it was so easy to unlock. They also offer the option to unlock it for you prior to your arrival. They provide you with a map of how to get to your cabin just in case you lose service before you get there. When I got inside the cabin looked exactly like I imagined. It was a small cozy cabin with a big window in the middle of the woods, just like the pictures. They had a picnic table, a fire pit, and a box of supplies to build a fire.

We had a picnic as you probably saw on my previous post. I put down a tablecloth, set the table and had mimosas, food, music and games! That lasted pretty much until the sun started to go down. Then we set up the fire and made some s’mores! I brought my own gram crackers, marshmallows and supplies to make s’mores but they did supply the s’mores kit for us. You’d be surprised how quick time flies when you’re in the woods not distracted by your phones or the outside world. We went on a rainy day so I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to enjoy it as much as I wanted to. But that wasn’t the case at all! Even when it was pouring there were so many trees that the rain didn’t even bother us. So I’d recommend going rain or shine and even when it poured and began to thunder in the middle of the night it was so cool to see the thunder through the windows. I slept so well through the storm. The rain did get worse during the night and the things we left out did fly everywhere so I recommend cleaning everything up before heading in for the night. Once the sun went down we took some pictures which didn’t turn out as cool as I had hoped. I even got a chance to read “Tiny Beautiful Things” and we played chubby bunny, childish I know.
